"Be still and know that I AM GOD"

Ministry and Me

Discipleship Walk Ministry

Let me share some information with you about Discipleship Walk.  In my opinion, this is one of the best ministries a church could get involved with because it changes lives, crosses church boundaries and changes the way you think about "church".

Christian Discipleship is a continual process of dying to self in order for the Holy Spirit to work within us.  By the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, we are transformed into Disciples theat Christ calls upon to make a difference in our world.

It is the intention of the Discipleship Walk to lead each person into a closer relationship with Christ.  A relationship in which you continue to mature in your faith, enabling you to make a difference for Christ in your own world.  Discipleship Walk is primarily a lay ministry with pastoral involvement.

The experience is heavily patterned after The Cursillo Movement, The Great Banquet, The Walk to Emmaus and other similar weekends across denominational lines.  Thousands of adults and teens have experienced the Discipleship Walk since its inception in 1989.  The ministry originated in Indiana with a group of dedicated Christians seeking to help others come to a deeper understanding of Jesus Christ. Discipleship Walk was introduced to Memphis, TN at Raleigh Assembly of God in 1997 and through a unique coming together with Cornerstone Church in Southaven, MS in 2003, a new Dsicipleship Walk community was birthed in North Mississippi.  Now, in May of 2009, another new DWalk community is starting up in Springfield, MO.

The Discipleship Walk weekend is a three day short course on what is required of one to become a Disciple of Christ.  It helps to remind us that God has called us into His family and that we should focus on how to fulfill His call upon our lives.  We explore God's love for us and discover how we can share that love with others.  Throughout the weekend, you will have the opportunity to listen to other christians' testimonies, fellowship with old and new friends, seek the Lord in prayer and share lots of food and fun!

The Discipleship Walk is a three day experience wherein an environment is created, so that we can have an opportunity for growth by furthering our knowledge of the Lord's will for us.  The first day speaks to God's call upon our lives.  It helps remind those who have made this commitment, that God has called us into His family, called us to be real and called us to enjoy the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The second day we focus on how to fulfill the call upon our lives, as well as come to a better understanding of Christ's love for us.  This day in which the love of Christ is shared throughout the Body of Christ, hopefully encouraging us to further develop into that community of believers where the love of Christ flows from one to another.

The third day is centered on going forward into the world from which we came just a few days before. After first considering the cost, we go forward empowered by faith, hope and love which we have in our daily walk with Christ.

In summary, it is the intention of the Discipleship Walk to lead people into a closer relationship with Christ where they might become more intentional and mature in their faith so that each person can make a difference for Christ in his or her world.

Discipleship Walk is an opportunity that should not be missed.  If someone asks you to go on a Discipleship Walk weekend, please consider going.  I know that your first reaction might be to say no, but if you are not sure you should go: pray about it.  Ask the Lord what He would have you do, then act upon it.  You won't be sorry!
